She Journeys Forward

Against all impossible odds

The heaviness of a wounded heart constantly aches,

The gift of life as the morning breaks,

The chest overflowing with terror and fear,

Thankful for another day she gets to spend here.

**

A mood of melancholy visits on a whim,

And still a smile graces her face when she thinks of him,

The pain of a love lost grows by the day,

And yet she carries her load in a graceful way.

**

Thoughts of anguish reside in her broken heart,

Alone in her solitude, of which he’ll never be part,

Excited for the hours she’s living in the now,

Pondering her future, organising the how.

**

Scared of her shadow, yet she soldiers through,

Tormented by demons that nobody knew,

Many only see the strength that she fortitudes on display,

But never truly understands, she’s never been okay.

**

Her life has been harsh and her days terribly long,

Where time after time everything went horribly wrong,

Still her strength and gratitude saved her again,

Allowing her to live in peace, despite the ravaging pain.

**

Seldom does she seek a guiding hand,

No, she stands tall alone as was always planned,

Tomorrow will be the day she faces her greatest fears,

Knowing she’ll be left to wander the earth in her drowning tears.

**

But time stands still for no man, or woman I should say in this case,

Because she grew to understand long ago, exactly where she is placed,

Giving up on the hope of living in peace,

She now journeys forward into her long awaited dreams at least.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

"Scared of her shadow, yet she soldiers through, Tormented by demons that nobody knew" Omg, I love this line😍

  • "Knowing she’ll be left to wander the earth in her drowning tears." This line hit me so hard. The world is just so unfair. Why do we humans have to feel these emotions? I'd be so happy to be an emotionless robot!

Fabulously written!!! A positive brave face is better than negative thoughts. Choices and onward!!!💕❤️❤️

  • Putting on & keeping up that brave front, praying that one day the facade will become the face & truly represent who we are.
