She Called It Love

4-23-2025

Top Story - April 2025
The weight of inherited harm disguised as nurture

She never knew the strength

that came from delicate feathers

that could fall and land

with a gentle kiss to the ground.

They left no mark

but landed all the same.

She was never shown

that ethereal words,

not honey-soaked and heavy sentiments,

but soft,

like a passing summer breeze,

hot with love and the desire for blooms,

would encourage more growth

than hammers, nails, and screwdrivers.

She never learned

the need for stillness needed,

once the nightlight days have waned,

and the rocking chairs have been put away.

She was taught to throw rocks,

and to war drum march with her wants

so that they might carve a path

that *must* be followed.

She accepted the curse

and never sought to break it;

manifested, "it is what it is",

into her person.

She holds no warmth,

no softness,

no light;

belittles those who try to show it to her.

She holds her chains fast

with fists full of resentment

despising the chain breakers

who refuse to carry the weight

of what was never meant for any of us.

    Well-wrought! Breaking generational trauma is difficult, but worth the effort. Documentary suggestion: CLEAN, which is on Tubi right now to watch for free. It's about a lady who started a business cleaning up trauma sites: hoarders, crime scenes, drug addicts. Her own life was quite harrowing. Very inspiring! Have your hanky ready! I marked your book page to go back to later. Short on cash currently, but I love adding print editions of people's work from here ot my personal library. If the grid ever goes down, I hope to have a cache of works to stand the test of time!
