Serenity in a Downpour

Inspiration, meditative, stream of consciousness poem

Do you ever just stand in the rain

And let the waters pour over you?

Amid a stormy downpour

There is a soothing serenity

Time to collect your thoughts

Time to consider your fears

Close your eyes and feel

Feel it all

The pain, the sorrow

The joy, the anger

Whatever comes to the surface

Let it

Take the pause

Live that moment

Take deep breaths

The deepest you can

In t h r o u g h your nose

Out t h r o u g h your mouth

Focus

On the airflow

In t h r o u g h your nostrils

Filling your lungs

Out t h r o u g h your mouth

Focus on nothing more

Let the percussive sounds

Of the downpour around you

Provide the backbeat

As you work t h r o u g h

The thoughts, fear

The pain, the sorrow

The joy, the anger

Holding you back

The frustration, the anxiety

Remember, you are not alone

There are 7.8 billion people

Around the world

All important

All the main characters

In their own stories

You are not a side character

You are not a non-playable character

If you ever feel that way

If you ever feel less than...

important

Know that you are

To someone, somewhere

Even if that someone

Is you

It is true

If you ever feel dragged down

Know that there are billions

Who also feel dragged down

That may not offer salvation

That may not offer solutions

Though, you can take solace

Though, you can find comfort

In knowing you are not alone

There is always someone

Someone that understands

Someone with open hands

Speaking of hands

Run your hands t h r o u g h your hair

Feel the water drip drop drip drop

Sometimes the best thing to do

When you are unsure what to do

Is to do nothing at all

To stand there

In the rain

*

Have you ever stood in a downpour

in the middle of a dense forest?

Let the natural surroundings

and the natural elements

Help you clear your mind

Drown out the noise

Help you to focus

On breathing

Deep, deep breathing

In t h r o u g h your nose

Out t h r o u g h your mouth

Clear the physical toxins

Clear the mental toxins

Listen to the sounds

The percussive beats

As the rain pours down

Onto the leaves, the bark and the ground

In the forest, during a downpour, no one can see you cry

In the forest, during a downpour, no one can hear you scream

In the forest, during a downpour, cry and scream and be free

To feel everything that's building up inside

Don't worry about the rain

Your wet skin, hair, clothes and shoes can dry

Just focus on letting it out

The emotions, the stresses, the anxieties

Just focus on letting it go

The emotions, the stresses, the anxieties

Breathe

In t h r o u g h your nose

Out t h r o u g h your mouth

Just breathe

I love the line about recognising you are important to someone even if that person is you. So true. I wish more people could see that. I really do, like Grz, feel like we are part of a whole and therefore are all important. We also have plenty of opportunity to meditate in the rain, don't we, in this country.

    Just read this again! Awesome!!!👏☺️

Beautiful. Meditative. Cleansing. Encouraging. LOVE THIS ONE! Rain/Water are so healing. I love standing in the rain, letting it clear me. One of my favorite sounds in the world is rain hitting our tent when we go camping. I'm one who schedules our trips around when it's going to rain, not so we can avoid it, but so that we can immerse ourselves in it:) Such a beautiful piece of work, Paul!

Wow. That's amazing, and peaceful. Check out my TS. You'll see why.

  • This reminded me of Taylor Swift's song, Clean! This poem was sooooo refreshing and beautiful!

Beautiful, Paul! I’ll be praying for a downpour… and not just because it has been too hot here with icky wildfire smoke. It’s because I need the rain as much as the Earth does. It’s so cleansing, and nourishes my spirit like the water I drink nourishes my body. Let the clouds burst and rain fall. 🌧️💕

That was relaxing to read at the end of the day. I could feel the raindrops. Definitely will come back to this one ❤️

This was so beautifully hypnotic Paul! I love the repetitive language and your gift for bringing the reader to the scene as you paint it around us! This is one of my favourite things to do when my brain feels too full, stand in the rain or watching it by the window with a cup of tea! I also do this with snowstorms, the cool feeling of peace just washing over you and cleansing your soul! Such a wonderful thing! Thank you for reminding me of the peace it brings!

  • Beautiful guided meditation. "In the forest, during a downpour, no one can see you cry" Let it rain. (I love the rain.)

👏👏👏 This was like exercise for my mind. The words themselves and the arrangement made me feel like I was taking part. Well done!

I can see myself going into yoga stances and practicing while reading this work of art. This is wonderful Paul. The topic itself is eye catching, I had to click on it. A calming and great read.

Hey! I just read this at the right time and place Paul. It’s very powerful and moving but there’s so much sensory language in it that it becomes an experience. “take a pause” indeed and what a pause it is. How do you come up with this stuff so effortlessly..? Also have you been doing meditation lately with all the references to breathing? I’m into meditation but don’t go to my group or practise it as often as I hope to. ☺️
