Shadows dance in veiled sunlight

weaving ways through groves of trees

Sight and sound together ignite

imaginations on the breeze

*

Sunset yields itself to moonlight

colors vibrantly explode

Bringing wonder awe and delight

nature’s senses overload

*

Misty rain to feed the flowers

goosebumps rise to meet the chill

Wind and rain mingle in showers

till every sense has been fulfilled

*

Birds and crickets serenading

owl’s and whippoorwills in tune

Send melodies across the water

frogs, duck, cranes and English loon

*

The way the body receives signals

sight, sound and smell, touching and taste

Like waves beginning from a ripple

each co-exist and interlaced

*

The smell the rain leaves as it’s falling

the taste of salt in crashing waves

The warmth of sunshine softly calling

sight and sounds alone, cannot contain

nature poetry

Reading this poem while sitting on my porch and it is about to rain is so fitting. Beautiful and engaging. ❤️

  • I really do miss the sense of smell, whether it be of falling rain or fresh baking bread. (No, not Covid. Two sinus surgeries.) Mesmerizing is almost but not quite the word I would use for this. Sensual might come closer, sweeping us dreamily through a wonder of sensual delights in the broader, though similarly ecstatic, sense of the word/phrase.
