Selfishness

By Daniel AdemuagunPublished 2 years ago 2 min read
Search history my boy and see what selfishness has done find you if you can one victory the little mind have ever won there is no record there to read of a man who fought for self alone no instance of a single deed done or splendor they may proudly own ___Edger Albert Guest

There was a man whose eyes glinted with ambition, his sharp scent of cologne wafting through the air. He pursued glory at the expense of others, his voice cutting through the silence like a knife. He prioritized himself over his family, his peers, and the crown. He offered nothing of what he had, his hands clutching his pockets tightly. For fear he could need it more, his heart had turned to stone. He was a hollow man who chose to die alone, his footsteps echoing through the empty halls of his mansion.

There was a woman whose smile was as sharp as a knife, her eyes cold as ice. Her voice was smooth as silk, but her words were like poison. She used deception to achieve her goals, her hands stained with lies. She didn't believe in empathy, her heart as barren as the desert. She exhibited no regret for suffering, her conscience as empty as a void. She was a lover of silver, gold, wealth, and power, her fingers adorned with jewels. But she had nothing to show for it, her heart as empty as her pockets. She had a barren heart that chose loneliness as a companion, her soul as dark as the night.

Living together were the man and the wife, their footsteps echoing through the halls of their opulent mansion. Their walls of gold were used to construct a self-centered fortress, their egos towering over all. The woman was described by the man as being self-absorbed, her eyes fixed on her own reflection. The wife called the man a narcissist, his voice ringing with arrogance. They both lived believing they were right for many years, their hearts as cold as the marble floors beneath their feet. But they never once recognized their own selfishness, their minds as closed as the gates of their estate.

One day karma called and gathered all that they had, the man and the woman stripped of their Gold, silver, and Glory. They moved to a house of regret, its walls made of clay, its roof leaking with rain. They had no one to call for, their voices echoing through the empty rooms. They both died alone, their bodies as cold as the stone walls around them. As a man and a woman who fought for themselves alone, they left behind no legacy, no memory of a single deed done. Only the wind whispered through the empty halls, carrying their names into the void.
