The Winding Road

On her way to acceptance

She sat in the front seat as the darkness took hold

Faster and faster the car sped forward

Her hand on the wheel and the other on the side

Her eyes diverted, a frown on her head

She blinked once, twice, three times

Tears threatening to fall any moment

A deep breath, another turn

And nothing for miles ahead

"Where am I going?" she wondered within

Her heart racing as fast as the car

"Zoom! Zoom!" the engine roared

No stopping now

No turning back

I've come too far

This is my fate

Her head falls back against the seat

Relaxing now, resting deep

She closes her eyes and lets the tears fall

The darkness closing in on the long windy road

"Zoom! Zoom! The engine roars again

She opens her eyes just in time

And whizzes to the sidelines

A sigh of relief as the lights flash

The sun has risen

Her tears are dry

A smile slowly appears

Finally, she's free.
