And things that I believe: An unconventional list poem.

Conversation is a valuable tool with the right person. But:

Talking to myself doesn't make me crazy if I'm the only one willing to listen...

Eyes are for seeing. Seeing is believing. However:

Blinking is overrated. I quit the last time I missed an opportunity.

In the awakening process of coming out of a shell, I learned:

If you build the mental fortress too high, success may never find the address.

Speech produces intelligible sounds with the ability to create. I once wondered:

If words had the power to truly heal, would I become a liar?

Failure does not discriminate. One lesson it offered me is:

Choices are a privilege, but the day won't wait for you to decide.

Saddling up to ride a 'High Horse' never ends well, because:

It's when approval grows a ravenous appetite that criticism becomes a formidable enemy.

Cynicism may be the death of building relations, seeing as:

Devotion is rare and trust is an endangered species.

Education is for anyone with the advantage to control destiny. So:

If you can read this, be proud. Illiteracy is still in the dictionary.

Life in these times is stranger than fiction

Words are here to stay, an invited addiction

I must live by wisdom, it's important as food,

making these self-made quotes worthy of tattoos...

Wonderfully poignant words of wisdom. Congrats all around.

  • Loved this Lamar- the structure is perfect. I shall live for the day when illiteracy becomes obsolete. Not in my lifetime though sadly :/ This made me chuckle though "Talking to myself doesn't make me crazy if I'm the only one willing to listen..." I frequently have an out loud a chat/rant/discussion with myself, to turn around and find River chuckling away at me 😁

  • Heyyyy Lamar, guess who's back? Lol. Congratulations on your Top Story! πŸŽ‰πŸ’–πŸŽŠπŸŽ‰πŸ’–πŸŽŠ

Each line turns a simple idea into something deeper. It feels honest, a little heavy, but real. The last stanza ties it together well. Congratulations on your top story!

Well-wrought, Lamar! That first one especially remains true for me. Cynicism, however, gets a bad wrap, I think, where it is all too often confused with pessimism. I coined the term Cynick to revive the practice of not just accepting every impression without doubt while hopefully still reflecting doubt in an amenable and constructive way, as a means to separate the greeters from the grifters, and the true seekers from the sellers! A work in progress!

Wow! Top story is well earned! Hope you land the contest prize too, because this is actually one of the most thought provoking poems I’ve read in a long while. I actually had to read each line twice, just to let it all settle inβ€” you packed so much wisdom into your words I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing anything. I like the format too, very novel and very compelling. Great poem!
