Scriptum Amor
An Ekphrastic Sonnet

“You can make anything by writing.”
--C.S. Lewis, The Screwtape Letters, 1942
Can anyone be made by writing?
If, simply by means of humble scribbling
I can conjure each fiber vibrating
Every cell, and send each circulating

Through your swift veins and throbbing arteries;
If I can weave each hair and light your eyes
Map your brain’s grey hills and silver valleys
Chart the contours of your throat, waist and thighs

Imbue your mind with thoughts that scandalize
Incline your palate toward bittersweet
Fashion charming memories and white lies
Smiling triumphs and purple bruised defeats

Will Aphrodite smile at what I’ve wrought?
At last, will she grant me the one I’ve sought?

Congrats on Top Story!🥳
Intresting 😍😍
Shakespeare in the making...I have got to turn my mind to this form of poetry. It is to die for. This is the sound of those bards reaching across time. Congrats on TS.
ohhhhh it is exquisite!!!
Interesting, and brilliant. I love the inspiration and vivid image it seemed to radiate. The way how we can truly craft entire worlds from mere words, and imagination. And every sentence seemed expertly crafted. Well done 😁👍🍁.
Excellent stuff, and well done on your T.S.!
Ekphrastic poetry is so interesting. You get the opportunity to delve into a world a world, and give it new meaning. Well done!
This, is, incredible. That painting is so intriguing and entrancing and your words offer a rather philosphical thought. I love that quote from Lewis and you did the quote and the painting justice with your exquisite words! Congrats on Top Story!
This was wonderfully written. Loved these lines so much, 'Map your brain’s grey hills and silver valleys. Chart the contours of your throat, waist and thighs'. I've only tried Ekphrastic poetry once, and really enjoyed the process :)
Excellent work! Keep up the fantastic effort—congrats!
Captivating, thrilling, sensitive and frightening at the same time. Really beautifully written
Lovely!

💜This was beautiful💜
Loveeeeeee
Loved your poem...
I like how you used a quote to inspire your piece while also really expanding upon what it conjures to you personally.
Clear to see why you earn so many awards. Your writing is brilliant.
Back to say congratulations on your Top Story! 🎉💖🎊🎉💖🎊
Elegant and absolutely stunning piece of art 🔥🥰
Excellently wrought.
Well done! Beautiful.
I always adore a good sonnet. Keep up the amazing work!
Yes! Words are spells, and I’m spellbound by this. We can make ourselves with our writing. We can change our narrative. We can become our dream version of Self and attract our equal. Similarly, we are what we consume, so if all we read is hot garbage (like the news, or gossip) we’re sure to dim our light and remain hidden from those who might truly see us. Beautiful painting paired with beautiful words you’ve conjured here. Congrats on Top Story. 🥂
Awesome work
