scars...

written by Edvin Sterling

The forest is dense and dark

A hint of sunshine rushes in

Through a few patches of parting leaves.

I've come a long way, my destination's still far.

I've walked unwalkable paths.

I've conquered my greatest fears.

Sweated blood and tears.

I made it this far only because of wrath.

The wanting to feel alive.

To breathe the fresh air

Which is becoming more rare.

But it's helping me survive.

No path to safety or liberty.

Only darkness by giant trees.

I've been hoping and begging

On my knees for no more travesty.

I want to see things as they are.

In their true form,

While the distorting storm's

Slowly transforming into dawn.

The grove was thin, the weeds were sparse.

And all along I wasn’t in a forest

But on the brightest,

Calmest sea. And I was only observing my scars.

I love the image of the sunshine breaking through the leaves. Such a powerful way to begin the journey.
