Say Something

Reaching out matters, from either side.

Solace and solitude are not the same

If the voices inside are too vicious to tame.

Lies that we tell ourselves lurk in the mind.

Every hurt leaves a fresh, open wound behind.

No one cares!” is too easy to believe.

Comfort's yours for the taking, and sweet self-reprieve.

End the silence. Speak up. Don't leave someone to grieve.

***

A/N: With World Suicide Prevention Day right around the corner (September 10th), an acrostic seemed like a good way to express that silence can be fatal.

Reach out to - or for a friend. Donate to or participate in one of the many campaigns against suicide. Here's one that's close to my heart. (This is not a sponsored link. Although I have participated in the past, I am not affiliated with or participating in this event):

And, of course, this poem was written for the Vocal Moment of Silence Challenge:

Love the message as well as the flow of this Dana, and “Lies that we tell ourselves lurk in the mind.” is such a powerful line. If we can all reach out just a little more, whether it’s us suffering or someone we know, then it can help 🙏🏽

That was so heavy but a much needed reminder Dana! Well said!!! The title reminded me of this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O23-OjPyR9A But I feel like your message was much more profound, reminding us not to give up on the people we care about! 💚

A necessary message, Dana. My son went through a troubling time with suicidal thoughts a few years ago. I still worry but he has a strong support system. Well written and personally very touching!
