Your coffee cup had a pair of wolves

touching noses. You’d raise your cup

and clink with mine. “Mates for life,”

you’d say. I’d chide you for

staining the nightstand.

You took your mug,

leaving just

that damn

ring.

About the Creator

Sonia Heidi Unruh

I love: my husband and children; all who claim me as family or friend; the first bite of chocolate; the last blue before sunset; solving puzzles; stroking cats; finding myself by writing; losing myself in reading; the Creator who is love.

Goodness, Sonia. Injustice!! My personal favorite. The way you wove in the speaker's sense of responsibility, while still observing that "you" left...that is a masterful execution of a complex poetic move. Wow. Then there's the baggage of the word "ring." I mean, don't even get me started on how amazing this piece is. Did I say injustice?
