SANTA’S CHRISTMAS

~ unfortunately ~

++++++++

The children awoke on Christmas morn, And stood in great surprise, As they saw the many presence Heaped there before their eyes.

It's true they had a jolly time Opening boxes by the score. But I had more fun than anyone. I was with Santa the night before.

Each Christmas Eve it happens, I laugh till I get sick, Going with dear Santa On his Christmas trip.

Sometimes Santa has troubles, But they’re funny as can be. I thought I'd tell you some of them. Then you can laugh like me.

The first Test that we stopped at Was so quiet and so dark, That Santa jumped out of his boots When a dog gave a sudden loud bark.

When he bent to put his boots on, He took an awful chance, The little dog ran over, And bit him in the pants.

Santa said, “Let's hurry out; That dog is not so nice!” He took one step outside the door And slipped down on the ice.

I helped him off and brushed him off And took him to his sled. Then all the snow slid off the roof And landed on his head.

The next task that we visited Was a clean but poorly shack. A loose floorboard came swinging up And gave Santa's nose a whack.

The third house that we went to Was so bright and full of cheer, That Santa smiled and said to me, “Nothing can happen here!”

But on the wall there was a button. Dear Santa pushed it – so … A great big safe came sliding out And nearly broke his toe.

Then there was the next house; Santa warned me to be quiet. But he stepped on a kitten's tail - And soon we had a riot!

Santa made such a racket The Mamma came out from her room. She thought he was a burglar And hit him with her broom,

Santa ran so very fast He didn't notice skates were there - And BANG! CRASH! down he came - He pumped on every stair.

He ran over to his sled Which wasn't very wide. He jumped in so very fast He fell out the other side.

And finally at the last house, Santa was as tired as could be, But still he placed the many gifts Beneath the pretty tree.

At least he climbed the ladder To fix the angel's crown. Then the letter tipped … and Santa slipped - And pulled the whole thing down.

The Dolly yelled MAMA! the toy phone RANG! The little train WHISTLED! The fire truck CLANGED!

At almost every house we stopped at, It was very much the same, So by the time the night was over, Santa was pretty lame.

And so he said, “PLEASE TAKE ME HOME, TO BE WELL ENOUGH I FEAR, I’LL HAVE TO REST THE NEXT 12 MONTHS TO MAKE THAT TRIP NEXT YEAR!

Very cool! I laughed a lot when reading this one! Thank you. I was asked to write a poem to go with an artists picture for a show he is doing in May. Any tips. I have never done this before?
