Sail Away

On a Dream

By Mother CombsPublished 11 months ago 1 min read

As you lay your head upon your berth

Tossing and turning in your bunk

Your body fighting off blessed slumber

Clear your mind from the day’s stress

And close your tired, beautiful eyes

As you feel yourself slipping into sleep

Heed my call and come aboard

Walk right on up the gangplank

To the USS Dreamland Express

Once you are on deck,

The Ol’ Man will begin giving out

Nautical commands

As he takes the wheel

When the anchor is brought boat-side

We’ll head out to the Seven Seas

Floating on dreams through fantasy

Collecting them as if they were

Flotsam and Jetsam

Of bits and pieces of shared illusion

Between two kindred spirits

Traveling between the stars

We’ll use the tip of Ursa Major as our guide

As we glide through the fogs of memories

Smoothly avoiding the whirlpools

That comes with intense, fiery emotions

Swiftly, we will pass the Sirens of Despair

Leaving behind their Tempestuous Shores

Drifting along, till we see

The coast of peaceful Jubilant Rest

Where we will dock till the morning light

When you wake up completely

Relaxed and utterly at ease

All your worries from the day before

Thoroughly and utterly wiped clean

I could certainly use some of this right now. Waking up to find all problems wiped away. Love the idea.

Well-wrought and lovely! I'm a landlubber myself, but a hike to a high point with a beautiful landscape below yields, I think, the same majesty and serenity as returning from or going out to the open sea.
