Do I need to try to be pretty,

Or feminine, here -

Or can I just show up?

Is it safe to be me

With you?

Are there expectations

I'm required

To pay attention to -

In order to be safe,

In your space -

In this body?

We ok if I let my guard,

Down?

Outside the binary -

Outside of boxes -

Saying what's on my mind -

“Safe”, or not.

Needing you to be responsible

For your own self-care,

Safe inside yourself,

Comfortable sharing space,

Comfortable humanning.

Wanting you to be messy

Human with me,

Even -

Messy without trying to hide it

Or cover it up.

Trust me to honor you,

And not make you fit into boxes,

Either.

You be real with me,

I be real with you.

We're becoming terribly real,

As a society.

Messiness abounds -

It's unsustainable to pack it all up,

And smile behind masks,

And judge those that don't.

We have to be real with each other,

And feel safe doing it.
