Rockwell Incarceration

My Small Town

Rusty water towers

in a tiny little town

Passing by the hours

watching pennies hit the ground

Saving all my money

and my courage, just to run

Doesn't it seem funny

that nobody gets it done

Stuck here on repeat, it takes a dare to move beyond

If only I could make a wish, and wave a little wand

Escaping scenic captivity, my Rockwell incarceration

bringing my heart back to life, with some needed defibrillation

I'm not saying that my small town, will be the cause of my demise

Just acknowledging that some of us, use it as stagnation alibis

We sit and watch, the best of us, move up and out of town

and climb monotonously back into the small town, lost and found

fact or fiction

Our entire time in ministry has been spent in small churches in small towns. I understand the feeling of forgotten & buried. Not necessarily the same as yours, but what you've written hear speaks tenderly to me.

  • Stagnation alibis. I really liked that. Loved your poem!

  • ” acknowledging that some of us, use it as stagnation alibis” It is so easy to use ordinary life as an excuse not to push yourself, isn’t it?

Very nice, though kind of sad.
