Rivers Frozen in Time

An emotional poem about losing someone

By Rasma RaistersPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

I’ve danced in the rain,

waved my arms when the rainbow arched above,

done a lot of things that gave me such pleasure

and even fell in love.

You made my heart beat faster,

the emotions like white river rapids,

kept me rockin’ and reelin’ –

since the day you said hello.

Our hellos turned into I love you’s,

hand in hand we went tripping down life’s road.

We stumbled and we fell,

dried each other’s tears,

held on tight through the fears,

as silver threads replaced the gold.

Even then we would go out steppin’,

be it sunshine or rain,

through all the seasons,

our love would light the way.

The day that it all ended,

when I least expected it,

you had to say good-bye

as the angels took you away.

That was the day,

all the rivers froze in time,

there was no more,

reason and rhyme

and all the songs lost their melodies.

Silence hung heavy,

springs and summers,

no longer delighted me,

for it was in the summer,

while the roses were still blooming –

that you crossed that heavenly river.

So I embraced the autumn,

with all its bright colors –

red, orange, yellow, and brown.

The sweet scent of the autumn rain,

made me glad because the raindrops,

mingled with my teardrops –

as the coursed down my cheeks.

Came the winter chill,

silvery frost upon bare tree branches,

my lonely footprints,

through the snow,

and for me all the rivers –

had frozen in time.

There are still so many roads,

In life for me to travel,

just hope you are beside me,

shining your love down from above.

Someday those rivers will begin to flow again,

I’ll step into a sailboat

and sail right into paradise –

where we’ll be together through eternity.
