Rhyming On The Eighth
My writing group rhymes every month on the eighth
Author's note: A few of my favorites from this month. JoAnn posted the photos. I am assuming they are hers. She is 80 now.
My favorite for this month!
by JoAnn Boorman
I’m watching a silent movie
I think it’s totally groovy
All in black and white
No sound, that’s alright
Starring Bebe Daniels
Big eyes, like a spaniel’s
Playing Satan Synne
So naughty, I’m all in
Stealing husbands left and right
They fold without a fight
They Give her lots of money
She calls them honey
She’s a nasty little tramp
She is an expert vamp
Robbing those poor boys
While treating them like toys
Cecil B DeMille-a director so cool
This, his 41st silent, he was no fool
I love his movies, there’s no doubt
When I’ve seen them all , I might pout

Author's note: This was my response to JoAnn’s post. It is not my best work, so I won’t boast!
Wow
Now
This has clout
They haven’t been out
For so many years
Bringing laughter and tears
Mom always said to my sister and I, JoAnn
They don’t make movies like they used to, Carrie Anne!
Author’s Note: This next rhyme is from who always starts us off on the eighth, and she is great! First rate!
Carol Verant Arola wrote this:
We made it to FriYay
It got here at last.
The week took so long
I thought it had passed.
It’s also the 8th of August -oh my!
Summer surely has really flown by.
Autumn is upon us hopefully a relief from the heat.
Soon we’ll be wearing boots on our feet.
So, enjoy the weather come rain or sunshine.
Lots of hugs and warm wishes to your heart from mine.
Author’s Note: Now, two others. They are first-rate sisters, this month there were no brothers!
Opportunity Boulevard, by Jenny Wettersten
I devoted the past year
To one aspect of my career.
A deep dive into the study of environmental sustainability,
The topic that means the most to me.
My research done, now prepping for the semester,
A short break down south to pick up a stock trailer.
En route home I stopped to see an old friend,
We toured her farm from end to end.
Three decades of labor, love, and energy,
The land is now restored to native prairie.
In full bloom it was the most beautiful site,
Creatures abound all day and all night.
I headed north, my trailer in tow,
Avoiding the interstate don’t you know.
Coming into Cambridge I saw a street sign,
“Opportunity Boulevard” (I can’t make that rhyme).
I paused for a moment, took my foot off the gas,
Should I turn down that road or should I pass?
Antsy to arrive,
On I did drive.
I spent today as I have several past,
Working hard getting ready for class.
At 6 pm I saw an email just before my computer I did shut,
My Psychology of Sustainability class has been cut.
Perhaps I should have turned right and driven down that lane,
Had I done so would things be the same?
Author’s Note: Last but not least.
~The Sacred Spirit~By JennLee Sawatzky 8/08/2025
Our spirit has many facets like a disco ball,
Turning, transmuting, & reflecting them all.
The power held inside would blow the minds,
So Many wishes granted over endless times.
Change comes easy to those whom work,
Some days that is simply not going bizerck!
We mirror the love, the grief, the pain…
The days full of joy an some filled with rain.
Beautiful things work together to make it grow,
One cannot exist without the other you know…
Each has a reason each has their season,
The point is no matter what we go on people pleasing…
We glitter, we spin, we glow, & shine~
We explode our light then stand tall on our spine…
Never for a second may we slow down,
This is the chaotic mission of a sacred clown.
We twist, we turn, we spin up an around,
Holding ever tightly to things of sight an sound.
If we slow the roll an do not help the world to heal,
The sacred light grows dim within with all that’s real…

I loved all of your poems! It's so hard to choose a favourite
I loved seeing everyone’s rhymes this month! A writing group sounds so fun, I'll have to see if there are any in my area.
Don't know how you and your group write these great rhyming poems. All of them are great and do you choose which to share. Great work.
