Rewriting the World

Poetry by Adib

King

Can’t judge a king,

A king that will change the world,

A king that can break through BRASS if told to,

A WARRIOR king,

A king that can make peace, love, to all the world,

An African king,

A Persian king,

A king born off of words,

A king born with a crown on his head, and a sword in his hand, he is still standing,

An 8-year- old king.

Young black angels

I love you with all my heart, my young black angels,

I love you as I watch you fly, fly high,

I love you with all my heart my young black queens,

and I want you to always wear a crown up upon your long black curls,

to remind you that you can and could always,

fly.
