My Tongue

By Adib Thomas, 13, Redmond WA

soar with me...

My tongue is cursed

My tongue is life

My tongue is a bandage

My tongue is a knife

My tongue is what fuels the hearts of so many

My tongue is what causes me to wear my heart heavy

My tongue teaches others to fight for their rights

My tongue is the reason I fear for my life

My tongue is a curse

And it is my birthright

My tongue is the day

My tongue is the night

My tongue is my ancestors

Listen as I write

Sonnet
