And when you think of me

Be kind

Courage found me in shades of gray

Dangling promise of rewind

Effortlessly pulled me from the fray

Forging new paths, I've never seen

Gave way to the dawning of the day

Held me to choices in-between

In methods only time conveys

Justifying things to come

Kept me holding to the past

Lingering beats of my own drum

Memories that could never last

Notwithstanding circumstance

Opinions clouded what was seen

Proof abandoned happenstance

Quietly the powers that be

Returned the verdict of my fate

Salvation for the choices made

Time twists and turns every mistake

Under the veil of debts repaid

Valiant the efforts of the spell

What depths the mind will hold onto

Xylomancy, omens do tell

Youth trades for lofty revenue

Zealots content with the thrill of mastering life's carousel.

Xylomancy was an "often overlooked" type of Divination that relied upon twigs. According to Sybill Trelawney, it was an ancient method, and in order to be able to read the omens, one had to account for several aspects, such as the size, shape, and colour of the twigs.

Such a lingering sadness in this, beautifully worded :) And bonus points for the author's note...Professor Trelawney!!

    Beautifully written. Well done.

  • My jaw dropped because I'm a hugeeeee Potterhead but I've not heard of Xylomancy! Any idea in which book Trelawney mentioned that? Loved your poem!

  • Great work Kelli. I love the rhyme scheme!!!

  • A whole lot to unpack here, & after over 90 minutes of working with my credit card company to fix a problem, having been assured that it was, it's still not, my head's not up to it. I'll have to come back to this later. But anything that references Sybil & xylomancy has got to be good.
