He Wanted To Date My Mum Behind My Back

He smiled too easily, spoke my name like a joke.

Said I was special, said I was safe with him.

Then I heard my mother’s laugh on his phone,

soft, surprised, the way women laugh when chosen.

He thought I would never notice the cracks,

the late nights, the stories that never matched.

He wanted her quietly, politely, behind my back,

as if betrayal could be dressed as romance.

I watched him shrink from lover to stranger,

a man who wanted comfort, not consequence.

My mother never knew the whole truth,

and maybe that hurt more than losing him.

Some men do not cheat with passion,

they cheat with convenience and cowardice.

you cheated with my mum,

one thing I wan5 to say is go were done.
