They say the eyes are the mirror to the soul
But what’s in my eyes to reflect me as a whole?
The blackness in the core
Absence of colour is illusion
In these depths there is more
Be drawn in to my effusion
My emotions run deep
Felt with passion and tenderness
Revealed in every look
Vast and measureless
Blues and greens of every hue
My iris brings shades
Of life, love and joy
And cheeky escapades
Witness emerald, olive and aqua
In harmony and tranquility
And cobalt and midnight blues
Withdrawing in fear and fragility
The darkness of self-doubt
Of relentless self-judgement
Constricts the eyes in withdrawal
Reflecting dullness and detachment
Then a smile lights up my eyes
Playfulness and delight
Pupils widen, cheerful brightness
Everything will be all right
And moments of pure joy
Radiate and sparkle blue of sky
Love and light come forth
Behold the beauty of my eyes!
