"There's this painting on Metropolitan and Union of a man sitting on a chair. He sits with a can of black paint, painting prison stripes on his clothes... and when I laid eyes on it, the first person that came to mind was you..."
"haha, really? What's so significant about it?"
"...Seriously? Isn't it obvious? What do YOU see?"
"I see a man painting prison stripes... what's significant about it?"
"Damn... well at least you have something right... I mean you really don't see it?"
"Ok, this is getting a little tiring. Are you Gonna tell me or not? I have better things to do with my time."
"The painting shows how we are our own prisoners."
"How so?"
"Well, the man is literally painting his own stripes. No one is painting them for him, and no one is holding him to it. He is sitting there alone, painting his prison stripe. He is his own warden, the one that holds him back. I don't know how else to say it. We hold ourselves back..."
"Ok, and this brought me to mind? How flattering."
"Well, yea... I don't know why but it did."
"Lies. 9 of 10 people say I don't know, when answering a question because it's easier than speaking the truth. You know exactly why I came to mind. I'd like to hear why."
"You hold yourself back. You're angry at the world because of the situation you're in, and you blame people for your misery. You have so much talent it's incredible to behold, and you waste it on what? Every time you start something that could be great, you leave it half way. You have a wonderful personality and you hold it back hiding it from everyone. Keeping your self in-cased in a glass box. That's why you came to mind. I don't know if you've realized it, but you are here because of you. Every situation you've been in is because you've put yourself there. You've chosen the life style you're living and you need to break from it. Throw out that paint get up from the seat and break free of you. Trust that once you do the fog that is misery will clear and show you a whole new world... a better world."
"Wow... you're the first person to ever put it like that..."
"I know... I also know I'll be the last..."
-And so I turned my face from the Mirror...
