of all the things I've loved and lost
then loved again
it's you that crosses
my mind, my long lost friend
taking me back
to way back when
before the end
the final time with you
and who I was
becoming who
I am, because
to remain lost
the fatal flaw
ultimate cost
a bullseye painted on a wall
taking the shots the world heaves
maintaining face
so selfishly
casting the target
on someone else
to self preserve
and save myself
from crashing blows
unwanted hells
and painted shells
goodbyes, hellos
and little else
to cover the stains
of captured hearts
with paper planes
and plastic dolls
each of us playing
a special part
that no one practiced
a dying art
no one cast
still we fight, hang-on to last
though unprepared
soak up memories
that living gives
the joys and pains
because we lived
makes every
ounce of it worthwhile
the priceless treasure
of a smile
urging us to try again
to love and lose and love again

The mistress of rhyme strikes again and a really deep sentiment behind the words.
