Reasons Why

Remain

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished about a year ago 1 min read

of all the things I've loved and lost

then loved again

it's you that crosses

my mind, my long lost friend

taking me back

to way back when

before the end

the final time with you

and who I was

becoming who

I am, because

to remain lost

the fatal flaw

ultimate cost

a bullseye painted on a wall

taking the shots the world heaves

maintaining face

so selfishly

casting the target

on someone else

to self preserve

and save myself

from crashing blows

unwanted hells

and painted shells

goodbyes, hellos

and little else

to cover the stains

of captured hearts

with paper planes

and plastic dolls

each of us playing

a special part

that no one practiced

a dying art

no one cast

still we fight, hang-on to last

though unprepared

soak up memories

that living gives

the joys and pains

because we lived

makes every

ounce of it worthwhile

the priceless treasure

of a smile

urging us to try again

to love and lose and love again

The mistress of rhyme strikes again and a really deep sentiment behind the words.

This shows the ups and downs of all relationships from childhood to adulthood and learning to accept what happens. Good job.
