Reaching for the Sun

A Poem

By BeckyPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

A flower grows where it is planted

Never questioning it’s place

Never comparing its beauty to whomever she’s beside

Admiring the purples, reds, and pinks all around her

A flower stands tall reaching for the sun

Looking up to the aged green trees shading her with wisdom

Knowing although they may be taller with deeper roots

They will go through the seasons together

Nourished by the same rain and dancing in the same wind

A closed bloom waiting for the right time to open

Afraid to be seen any other way

Showing the world what’s been inside

An explosion of fiery yellows and oranges

Patiently waiting to feel the rays of warmth

And to be welcomed to each new day

Knowing this garden is home

That every flower and tree that surrounds her is family

That she is still the flower that grew despite her fear

She stands tall

Reaching for the sun
