Raven-ous
A Play On Poe
once inside a midnight dreaming
bored and ornery I was scheming
deeds and paybacks for some brokenhearted love
while I wondered, deeply pondered
of the time I'd sorely squandered
listening to the gentle warning of a mourning dove
came a cawing, someone bawling
so enthralling, it sent me crawling
down the damp, dark hallway with a force much like a shove
there was sitting, unremitting
ravens sipping something dripping
from the open attic door and the ceiling up above
though completely unaware
and through a deep and steely stare
lay tiny partial pieces of my faithless former lover
awakened from a midnight dreaming
with smiley faces on my ceiling
revealing my concealing's that I've hidden undercover

Well done! The playful rhythm somehow makes this even more disturbing but in a good way. lol
Nice twist on the Poe original. It’s not easy to keep that same rhythm and rhyming scheme that he did while also maintaining the spirit of the imagery but making it a different kind of heartbreak. Well done.
Lol. This is great.
Love the interanl rhyme of this, My cat's name is Poe, after tthe poem.
And may this never be used as evidence against you. Though it is fun to dream with a little whimsy now & then, isn't it, my friend? Lol.
Loved the Poe theme. Have you seen the movie The Pale Blue Eye
