Quietly, the year begins, a curtain lifts.

Mike's January prompt. Looking back and looking forward. Lovely and wistful.

January begins.

The year's curtain lifts, the stage set for new beginnings.

Janus arrives, wrapped in frosty drifts

as we glance back at December, with a wistful smile.

Yin to yang, two faces he proffers, an end and a new birth

One the past, the other the future

Transitions, endings. Gateways...doorways to the future

"Forget", Lanuspater (father of Janus) commands...forget

"The tears, and where we’ve been, forward the laughter and hope instead".

+

The scene is ethereal, unreal

Two silhouetted figures stand, both close, connected but separated in time and space

One gazing back into a misty, memory-filled past, the other looking forward towards a shimmering, hopeful future.

Intrinsically, inherently awed, nature pauses...capturing the essence of time in a delicate, dream-like moment.

Snowflakes, like memories, fall and twirl, Reflecting dreams and hopes in a delicate swirl. Footsteps we left in the year that’s gone, Guide us forward as the new dawn awakens.

January whispers, with a playful wink, “Look back, dear heart, but don’t forget to think, of the paths yet untraveled, the stories untold, In this fresh start, be daring, be bold.”

Promises will unfold with each new adventure, new stories, new chapters to write, hearts to conquer. We carry the past like a well-loved friend...but it is the future’s embrace we shall chase like crazed mad fiends.

So, forward to January, with its frosty embrace, a quirky reminder in life’s brisk pace, to cherish the past, but with eyes looking ahead, For in every dawn, there’s magic to be spread.

I hope this poem brings a bit of sparkle to your January, as it gives wings to fly!
