Queen

You're perfect, you say
But your "subjects" disagree.
You weep with the hurt
That you inflict,
Wondering
"Why is this happening to me?"
Queens are meant to be clued up -
The most powerful piece on the board.
You?
You know what you do
But you fail to confront it.
It's a war you don't want,
A mirror you don't want
Reflecting
Because battling yourself will mean loss,
Loss of self,
Loss of status,
Loss of respect,
And a queen cannot live without these.
But what a queen
Of any royal worth
Would know
Is that these have already been lost.

Oof! That ending created such a fantastic feeling of comeuppance. Crowns are heavy and some just can’t bear the weight! Really well done, Rachel!
Great job! Loved “you weep with the hurt you inflict.” Know too many people like that
Great job… thought provoking. I’m so glad I’m not queen.
Oh wow, that sure was deep! Loved your poem!
You weep with the hurt you inflict - wow. That was a cracking line! Thought this was so good Rachel.
The infamous Queen of Hearts. We’re having something of our own Queen of Hearts moment across the pond. This poem is a deep take on the psychology of a weak and childish ego. Spot on says I!
They have been tragically lost for so very long I don't even remember what they look like anymore.
Thought provoking for sure
Queens are humans. Nice work 🙏
