Red
For Ellie Hoovs' Unofficial Wonderland Poetry Prompt Challenge Number 3
If I could be a colour,
I wouldn't be red.
Red doesn't know what it wants.
Red is psychotic, the shade of extremes.
One minute, rage. Next minute, passion.
Red for blood. Red for roses.
Blue is cool in its many forms.
Blue is where I'm at.
But then I think of red acers
And cardinals
And holly berries
And who wouldn't want to be red?

My brother wanted our room in the basement painted fire engine red when we were growing up. Yes, I did have an anxious childhood. Why do you ask?

I like the idea of being red, or blue, but I feel like it would be problematic to say anything about wanting to be white. Maybe teal.
