Shining Apollo gazed at you with lust
Darling daughter of Priam's teeming Troy
Bright Phoebus, with a gift, sought your warm trust
Through him, prophetic power you'd enjoy

Chaste and unspoiled, you spurned his bold advance
Perturbed, he calculated his redress
The future he let you read at a glance
But none would heed visions you would express

In febrile dreams, you saw proud towers burn
Ulysses' splintered steed, you saw right through
But a rapt listener, you could not earn
Dismissed as lies were your prophecies, true

Cassandra, your forecasts fell on deaf ears
Troy's flames could not be quenched by your hot tears

Impressive sonnet! Like Poppy, I especially love the final couplet.
Excellent poem! 'Troy's flames could not be quenched by your hot tears' was an incredible line to end with.
Such an interesting figure in Greek mythology! Excellent sonnet, D.J.!
This is excellent DJ! The rhyme makes it feel old, which perfectly fits with the content. I particularly liked "Troy's flames could not be quenched by your hot tears" as your closer. Such an interesting part of the story that isn't so well-known! Hope this does well😊
I find the story of Cassandra infinitely captivating. Deftly done, D.J.
Febrile dreams, I especially loved that. I'm gonna start using that instead of fever dream hehehe. Loved your poem!
Great job! I loved how you distilled the story into this form
I loved it. As a Greek mythology nerd, I can’t wait to see what else Poppy’s prompt inspires.
