PinkJoy

Color is not gender or sexuality. It is not meant to stand alone.

“This is only for boys”

The words preached my whole life.

“That’s only for girls”

Words of scorn in place of

Tenderness

After all

Toddlers and babies must be shown

Must be taught

Taught that their bodies

Are not theirs

That being a boy is to

Be cruel

Be aggressive

Be bright blue

But never pink.

No

Pink is demure

Pink is femininity

Pink is weakness

In the eye

Of society’s beholder

The reflection of light

So simple

So pure

Tainted

By man’s need

To label

To assign

In greed they

Commit this deed

Everyone separate

The weak and the strong

The male and the female

The pink and the blue

But my whole life

This has felt so wrong

People are not their given

Color

They are not a

Reflection of our sun

They are not their gender

People are made to be one

Not separated by hues

But a spectrum of views

A rainbow is not evil

Not fitting into pink

Or blue

Is not a sin.

Why can’t I love

What I love?

Of all the colors,

Pink brings me joy.

I am neither boy

Nor girl.

I am me.

Our planet, we.

This family of earth

We need to start acting as.

Not separate

But bleeding together

Just as rainbows do.

Do not fear, lover

Our individuality is not lost

Blended and bonded

With each hue

Shining through.
