Otap Wonders
A rhyming poem about one of my all-time childhood favourite Filipino snacks. I used to eat these all the time with my Filipino nanny, so writing this poem brings back these fond memories.

Otap cookies, flaky and sweet
a Pinoy dessert, an extravagant feat.
Baked with love and care,
in each bite, a moment we share.
In the bustling hood of Little Manila, Toronto
or in the suburbs of Little Asia, Markham.
Otap cookies are a comforting sight
radiating good vibes and delight.
Golden brown and fragrant
with a touch so delicate.
Every cookie carefully made by hand,
a depiction of Pinoy culture, their land.
Otap cookies, a taste of home,
doesn’t matter where we may roam.
A piece of their heritage,
in each cookie crumb, a message.
Of family celebrations,
of childhood memories and traditions.
From generation to generation,
Otap cookies, an honourable creation.
Crispy and crunchy, an ideal pair,
with a cup of cocoa, tea, or coffee,
or simply on their own.
Otap cookies, a Pinoy pride
a sense of home; a close guide.
