“Open Your Eyes”

When crazy dreams speak, you listen.

By Brittany MaysPublished 3 years ago 2 min read

Darkness looming

Running in place

I see people

But not one face.

Why can’t I move?

My anxiety is through the roof

Cause it’s dark and I’m alone

And my feet feel like they’re glued.

But I’m running.

Going nowhere

Fast. Hard. Scared

Cause now there’s snakes

Everywhere

Don’t know how they got here or when

And now it’s getting even crazier

than I can comprehend

So my feet are glued

While I’m running in place

And I see all these people

But I can’t make out a face

There are snakes all around

All over the place

And then I blink

And now there’s a lake

It’s kind of peaceful now actually

I’m calmer now

I can finally move my feet

and walk around

But I’m still alone

Like what does this mean?

It’s getting really hard to follow this dream

And it makes it no better

that it actually feels real

Cause now I’m drowning and screaming

But there’s nobody here!

I’m saying something

“Open your eyes!”

“Open your eyes!”

It gets calm again

And now I’m fine

It was just a dream

Whew!

Thank God

Not knowing I’m in for another surprise

I thought I was awake

Because the setting was now at my place

My safe space

Until I thought about how in reality you can’t see your own face

And I was looking at mine

Watching me sleep

Peacefully counting sheep

Like some creep

And then

BEEP!

Oh God no

The snakes are back

and the room went from my space

Back to black

Back to the place with the people

and me running

but this time I can move

And the people see me coming

And I can see them now!

Faces familiar

They’re saying something

I’ll always remember

In sync they’re screaming

almost too loud for my ears

Don’t have to get closer

I hear them loud and clear

“Don’t trust us!”

“Don’t trust us!”

“Open your eyes!”

I said this on the lake

While drowning

Those cries

Was I really drowning?

Or just drowning inside?

From people who take

Then leave me stranded like how I was on that lake

Was that the reason they were in the same room with those snakes?

I’ll never know but I definitely keep the message inside

Guess the dream was telling me to open my eyes.
