A poem about leaving an abusive relationship

My sweet darling,
won't you kill me again?
Shoot me with your love
straight through the head.
Waded through a pool of pain,
waited desperately for the end.
Take your best shot.
I'm open.
Always hoped that we would last,
but we can't seem to outrun our past.
Used to pray that death comes fast.
Crying out in my sleep,
dreams of void, vast and deep,
nightmares attempting to escape you
and every little thing you do.
Oh, sweet sugar,
don't you kill me again.
Your love strangled me
with the sheets from my bed.
Walked down a trail of tears,
raced and hoped to reach the end.
Go on, take a shot,
I'm open.
Pieces of my soul on the floor,
but your absence allowed floodgates to pour.
From my chains I'm released,
nothing here but relief.
Looking back now, I'm laughing
because I'm done always reacting.
So, sweet lover,
try to kill me again.
You pulled me back
each time I was ahead,
but I left that pain
and I'm running to my new end.
You took your best shot,
you won't see me again.
Now I'll take my shot at life,
I'm open.
