Society makes it easy to lose track

Of whom we were, who we are, and who we strive to be

So many rules and restrictions to mind

What we wear, how we behave, and what one can and cannot say...

For myself I have always been the odd one in the crowd...

Non conservative and indecent at worst,

A wild thing and a free spirit at best

Never dictating what I wear, do or say

To fit society's understanding of right and wrong

Some love me for my carefree ability to be myself and not conform,

For my innocent inability to understand why others do...

But so often these same individuals try to quietly change me

Other's just fail to understand me...

Throughout our lives, a few trends remain constant

Trust and honesty, love and kindness

Between friends, family and loved ones

but also with ourselves...

Trust to do right by others and ourselves

Honesty to admit mistakes and make amends

Love and kindness in our hearts

To grow with grace and reject hate

I feel safe in that those close to my heart know the integrity of my character

Those few, understand the depths of my passion for love and peace

Always will I strive to be a better kinder and more peaceful person

But content am I in the knowledge of my strong will and...

Never will I change in order to please others...

Tired of those who feel that I am somehow inadequate or lacking in society's standards of discipline

I dance through this life with no regrets and no apologies

They should not feel threatened by my ability to show the naked truth of who I am
