A Photo by Umar on Upslash
Loss begins as gentle rain
Falling soft on quiet streets
You think it will soon pass
Yet it stays beneath your skin
Each goodbye paints the sky grey
Colors fade where love once bloomed
Hands grow cold without their hold
Rooms grow vast when voices go
The heart learns to fold pain
Like paper swans set afloat
Still the water swallows them whole
Still the sky forgets their shape
One art we never choose
One art we all must learn
To lose yet keep on living
To carry emptiness with grace
