Once

A poem

By Rasma RaistersPublished 10 months ago 1 min read

Once is a word I despise,

nothing ever happens just once.

Every fairy tale read to me,

began with -

Once upon a time.

However, as the story went on,

I knew I had heard all this before

and not just once but many times,

the tales often similar one to the other.

Once there was you, once there was me -

once there was the love we shared.

Then suddenly we were parted

and when someone said to me -

this happens once in a while,

I looked at them with horror,

it did not happen just once,

it was something this occurred over and over again.

Once is a word I despise,

I only tolerate it in one meaning -

once when my life is through,

you and I will meet again -

to be together through eternity.
