Once Upon a Stormy Night

A sonnet

By Samantha SmithPublished 3 months ago 1 min read

Petals droop under the weight,

Leaves ripped from their tether,

Sprinting towards the nearest gate,

Ducking for cover from the weather,

The sky is angry and alive,

Children cover their ears,

Lighting crashes, a thunderous surprise,

Doe eyes blink back tears,

But rain washes the heat away,

As the earth drinks its fill,

Couples lean and learn to sway.

Commotion grows still,

Up above, the sky may weep,

But under storm clouds, the whole world sleeps.

Absolutely beautiful description of a thunderstorm. I love that you mention so many types of people and how it affects them. Well rounded.
