On the Edge of Something

A heart destined to be broken

On the Edge of Something

We stood on the edge of something

love tangled with mistrust

and a word cracked the fragile glass

shattering what we thought would last

He looked at me

with eyes heavy and cold

not the woman he loved

but the shadow he feared

Once we laughed in sunlight

held each other through storms

but whispers grew loud

twisting truth into blame

I loved him fierce

but fear was louder

a silent poison

that drowned out everything else

He called me witch

like it was a sentence

not a word thrown in anger

but a lock on the door between us

I wanted to fight back

to tell him who I really was

but the fire inside me

was swallowed by the silence

Goodbye came soft

not with a shout

but a closing door

that echoed in the empty room

I walk away

not broken, not bitter

just free from the weight

of a love lost to silence and fear

There is no magic left

no curses or spells

just two people

who forgot how to love

And maybe one day

we will understand

how something so bright

can burn itself out

Until then

I carry the scars

not of the word he said

but of the love that died
