On the benefits of form

2025 Story #13

I haven’t written an acrostic since

Alphabet practice in school.

Mirroring examples in textbooks;

Noting the difficulty

Of finding words

That mean what you want to say,

And also words that fit the rules.

Poetry seemed less art, more discipline.

Older now, I realise rules are sometimes

Encouragement. It’s nice to know where

To start.

    Loved the way you characterized form! Sometimes it is nice to have a structure to arrange all the imagery and emotion within

  • Of course you are a poet! A damn good one too. Loved your Acrostic!

    I know what you mean! I've always most enjoyed free poetry because it is not as constraining. :)
