On Second Thought

Matching Tattoos and cigarettes
Both things I’d just as soon forget
Like puppet strings on marionettes
Holding me tightly in its grasp
I’ll burn it off or burn it down
I don’t belong here, in this town
Old tattered lace and wedding gowns
Although you never asked
Escape this race for freedoms sake
Leaving you caught there in my wake
Life’s too short, for heaven’s sake
We both knew it wouldn’t last
So, here’s to you and your someone new
Who doesn’t know the real you
Cause you’re pretty good masking the truth
Until she removes your mask

Eventually, the truth will come out.
The mask always comes off sooner or later. Loved your poem!
In a way this is a good way to work things out good and bad.
Great slam poetry. Love the flow
