Black Bird Messages

🐦‍⬛

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

I found a burnt Marlboro outside my door

I heard ghost footsteps crossing my floor

Cause you don’t live here anymore

Nothing but black Birds in the field

I’m money broke and my feet are sore

Tryin to raise a buck and settle scores

I’ve gotten too used to being poor

I sold the sword I used to wield

Now those black birds get closer everyday

Think they've been sent here ta-take me away

Been sowing the seeds that make men pay

Just not enough to seal the deal

So, come on and take me, I won’t fight

I’ve long since lost the will or might

The tunnels dark, but I see the light

And I’m ready now for flying free -

Like those birds in the field

This hits home closer than I care to say. Decisions all around that try the soul and test our faith. i love this as it hits close to home right now. Lovely words, if a tad on the dark side.

I really like this. Seems the blackbirds are both a harbinger of doom and a path to freedom. Very well done.

This is one poem that is picturesque, and I could see the blackbirds while reading. Good job.

Aww sad but very good. Love how deep and emotional your words are. And how you used the blackbirds to symbolize freedom but also death/darkness in a sense. Anyways excellent writing.
