Ode to the Common Loon

Haunting the lake with your beautiful songs.

An introvert of the lake

Yet you make your presence known

I’ve sought after your sightings

Since I was young to full grown

Your voice is equivalent

To the plainchant of our day

Haunting and beautiful

Your song echoes our dismay

But maybe, just maybe, it’s not as sad as it sounds

For when I truly listen, life is at its most profound

To be lost in the woods, lost amongst your call

Means I’m not truly lost, not even a little bit, not at all
