Not So Golden Age

The past is best left where it lies.

It's time we ought to give the devil sentinence,

And recognize him behind the walls of fake smiles and firm handshakes.

I'm sick of being lectured on the superior ways of some golden age,

Then reading a history rich in racism and orange poson.

Those smiles mean nothing but whatever words they've spoken,

In person or not, etiquette is no crutch for writing a list of the damned,

And signing it in blood before thinking and praying for those the author loves,

Like they're above the mediocrity of human feeling and acn shape reality like clay.

As if soaking a shameful history in time can remove its blood stains.
