Truth and Consequence
Let All Honest Employees Be Wary

Let All Honest Employees Be Wary!
Telling the Truth can be quite scary!
Hear my tale of truth and woe!
Learn from me! For you, mayn't it be so!
"Tell the truth!" you're always told,
even if it's tough. To face the music
and be honest, that policy is the best.
Perhaps that's true in life and love,
but how 'bout in the workplace?
Are they just and balanced people,
Or making a pretense at fairness?
As in short stories and novel plots alike,
These warnings are most common:
"Trust no one, watch your back,
and believe that They'll dole out 'or else.'"
Do not speak truth to snakes and schemers,
just answer "yes" or "no,"
"or else" with your own words, they'll hang you;
Innocence means naught, you know.
Do not report mistakes or problems,
unless you're injured or worse.
They'll say you're lying, false reporting,
and suspend you with a curse.
Do not trust colleagues or the bosses
howe'er friendly they seem.
They're not the kind and benevolent type
humans; they're not part of your "team."
"Trust, but Verify," the saying goes,
Following it makes great sense.
Otherwise, when you tell the Truth,
Be prepared for the Consequence.
