No Sleep

Motherhood

By Carrie Bohne WarrenPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

I lie in bed, and listen to my baby,

Maybe I’ll sleep tonight, just maybe.

I hear him breathe, in and out,

Was that a cough? In creeps the doubt.

I get up to check, just once more-

Not a cough, just a snore.

I lie back down, close my eyes,

My thoughts are racing, do I hear cries?

I get up to check, just once more-

Not a cry, just a snore.

I lie still, is this my life?

No sleep…a mother and a wife.

I get up to check just once more-

Not a cough, just a snore.
