No Sea Turtle

My Place on the Path

I am no sea turtle;

There is no calling of home so strong

It resonates in my bones.

I am a chameleon;

My place is everywhere.

A creature capable of blending with any crowd,

Will still always be a lizard.

And the strangers here are Zeus and Hera.

Dionysus gets me another drink

And I almost believe my own disguise.

Wanting so badly to join this heavenly plane,

And knowing that this body was made to be cradled by the Earth.

To plant its' feet in the soil.

To feel cool rivers and sunshine against my skin.

I am human;

My heart is home in the quiet moments...

In the solitude of my thoughts.

My soul nestled between a

Soft instrumental and

The way the sun shines through the pine tree outside my window.

Peace,

Like all good things,

Can only be truly savored if

One has tasted of adversity.

A tangled mass of struggle,

Each of us choosing to be

Soldier or Civilian

Through all the fights that must be fought.

Raging against the death of every light

Until we no longer see the stars

For they are drowned by the glare of our unyielding.

Disappearing in the illusion of happiness

While we forget the search for joy.

Of all the battles in our war,

The most significant will always be the crusade for ourselves.

The most worthy endeavor,

The most unexpected journey.

My place is in the in-between.

The place where love and loneliness meet to exchange pleasantries.

A breathtaking scene, and no one to share it with.

These moments are transformative,

Shifting focus from the struggle of surviving,

And loving,

And hoping,

To one that allows for simply existing in this vast world.

These moments have taught me to

Flow

Through life like a river through a valley.

Eating mountains,

Shaping the world around me

With the simplicity of my presence

And my willingness to adapt.

My place is on the road,

Learning lessons in the journey.

I am no sea turtle,

For as long as I can find the quiet,

I will always have a place

In myself.
