How did it happen?

When did life end?

When did this become reality

how could they...

When her independence became weakness

and doubt blended into assuredness

Saturating her calm confidence

shattering the illusion of self

Who she was, who she'd been...

She became one of the "forgotten"

now, just another body on a list of to do's

**

She sat in that chair for nearly 12 hours

soaked in her own urine, lunch still on her chin

solely and completely dependant on strangers

who were oblivious of who she was

Emotionally disconnected and devoid of that kind of knowledge

the kind of knowledge that connects a human to their spirit

But self and spirit needed to be dissected at the point of arrival

it made the "job" easier

Task in place of service

body after body

room after room

full of to do - tasks

of once vital souls

drained of humanity

As need and disease arrived

leading into the new season

depravations of the human spirit

Lonely souls left to deteriorate into oblivion

under the careful watch of no one in particular

Gripping and real, Kelli. Really hit home for me. My mother is in a nursing home. At 94 in a couple of months, she is just biding her time waiting for the inevitable.

Very sad but true, and I worked night shift at a nursing facility for almost two years. I had to move on way to sad, but I did get a kick out of a few of the residents I cared for then.

  • This is very sad. Unfortunately if family or love ones do not visit they would not some nursing home are mistreating an elderly 😪

Which one is the unnecessary line? I'm having trouble following this prompt

This is not a reflection of every nursing home, but of most. Unforunately... Very well written.
