No Hotels, You Took Me To Your Home

It was a blizzard I would never forget

No Hotels, You Took Me To Your Home

The snow was thick,

the road was gone,

my car gave up

and I was done

No hotels,

no signal,

no way to call for help

You pulled up slow,

said, I live close,

it’s safe,

if you trust me

I didn’t,

but I had no choice

Your place was small,

warm from the oven,

you made toast and eggs,

said nothing daft,

just handed me tea

and watched the window

Then gave me your bed,

no moves,

just quiet

Next day you got my car going,

tightened something,

slammed the bonnet

and smiled

All fixed, you said

I didn’t want to leave

and you saw that

Then you said,

Can we meet again,

maybe go for a drink sometime?

That was us

Now we’re married

and I still think

about the girl I was,

frozen, lost,

and how you never once

tried to impress me

You just showed up

and stayed

That's the best kind of partner, one who shows up and stays :-)
