I read your email enough times to recite and retell every lie you conjured up:
I miss you
I care about you
I love you.
Thousands of words written on a virtual document,
all of them meaningless.
You said you wanted to make amends,
but refused to apologize for the deep wounds
created by you.
You said you were proud of me
in who I grew up to be
and there's more you want to see.
You said this was your olive branch
in hopes I reach back out
and we meet somewhere close to what we were before.
Younger me would've given anything for this chance,
but I am all grown up
and I am choosing to cut down the tree
that represented you and me.
I wish you well
let your life be fulfilling
I hope your dreams come true
as I hope mine do too
just without you.
